View Profile Consult Now Hire NowHow to design a high quality urban space, redefine the image of a “landmark” building, while maintaining cultural tradition of Xixi wetland spirits, is the major challenge of this project. Four L-shaped slab buildings with large openings are used to encircling the site due to the landscape cross. The internal building volumes are modeled on the traditional wetland settlement pattern. It ensures the maximum utilization of landscape resources. Reasonable structures present a non-conventional visual impression, making the buildings a group of futuristic city sculptures.

The project is a typical Chinese village in the south of the Yangtze River. The design intention is to design and construct high-quality housing for relocalized farmers with a low budget, while maintaining their original lifestyle of collective living. The project breaks away from the formulaic style, seeks to organize the form of the buildings in the vernacular style of a courtyard typology. The function fully respects the way of life of the farmers. The project brings a new opportunity to rural revival under the existing system by providing quality affordable housing.
